A modern computer consists of at least one processing element, commonly a central processing unit (CPU) in the form of a microprocessor, along with some type of computer memory, normally semiconductor memory chips. The processing element carries out arithmetic and logical operations, and a sequencing and control unit can change the order of operations in reaction to stored information. Peripheral devices possess input devices (keyboards, mice, joystick, etc.), output devices (monitor screens, printers, etc.), and input/output devices that execute both functions (e.g., the 2000s-era touchscreen). Peripheral devices authorize information to be retrieved from an external source and they enable the result of operations to be saved and retrieved.

Technology is a gift of God. After the gift of life it is perhaps the greatest of God's gifts. It is the mother of civilizations, of arts and of sciences. Freeman Dyson

Nanotechnology will let us build computers that are incredibly powerful. We'll have more power in the volume of a sugar cube than exists in the entire world today. Ralph Merkle

Technology has forever changed the world we live in. We're online, in one way or another, all day long. Our phones and computers have become reflections of our personalities, our interests, and our identities. They hold much that is important to us. James Comey
